Bratislava is an hour from Vienna and sits on one of the busiest freight corridors on the continent, which has an obvious consequence: shared-load space is plentiful and cheap. Košice, at the other end of the country, is a different proposition entirely.

How the goods travel
A short crossing with the vehicle, then a straight land run. As with the other continental routes on this site, there is no sea leg to complicate the count — the only question is whether your goods stay on one vehicle.
Through Belgium or the Netherlands onto the German network, south-east past Nuremberg and into Austria, then the A6 across the border into Bratislava. For the east of the country, the D1 runs the length of Slovakia through Žilina to Košice — a long extra leg with fewer services along it.

Two countries, as far as a removals quotation is concerned
Bratislava is about as easy as continental Europe gets. It sits where the German, Austrian and Hungarian freight networks meet, shared-load space to it is abundant, and a groupage consignment departs often and costs little. If your dates can move at all, it is a genuinely sensible option.
Košice is four hundred kilometres further east, off the main corridor, with far less traffic heading that way. Shared space to it is thinner, the wait for a vehicle to fill is longer, and the saving over a dedicated load narrows considerably. On that half of the country we frequently recommend the dedicated vehicle on cost grounds alone, before the handling count enters the argument.
Then the buildings. A great deal of Slovak housing is panelák apartment blocks — system-built, with a small lift retrofitted into a stairwell that was not designed around one. The lift car and the lift door opening are two different measurements and both matter.
And in the Tatras, the approach. Resort and second-home roads climb, narrow and hold snow well into the year, and the vehicle is chosen from the road rather than from the volume.

Why does the destination inside Slovakia matter so much?
Because Bratislava is on a major freight corridor and Košice is four hundred kilometres off it. Shared-load space is plentiful and cheap at one end and thin at the other, which changes which option we recommend.

Will a lorry reach our block?
Usually to the door. The question is what happens inside: measure the lift car and the lift door opening separately, because they are different numbers and the second is the one that stops wardrobes.
